• Of course! In truth, this would avoid the transaction fees we are all charged online. Discounts are available for doing so (minimum purchases apply)

Please email us at repreeds@gmail.com, complete the contact form on our website, or telephone Joe at +44 (0)7847 893574 to discuss your needs and preferred payment methods.

  • Yes they are! We know that, and remember very well having to save up for £15 student reeds as far back as the 2000’s!

Our reeds are priced for the quality we provide, and for the time and attention to detail we apply to every reed. If you’re unsatisfied with anything whatsoever, please contact us as soon as possible for the swiftest of resolutions.

The transaction fees we are charged online means we may be able to offer discounts for direct orders (minimum purchases apply). For some larger orders there may be a discount automatically applied at the checkout.

Occasionally we will offer promotional discounts on some or all of our products, which will always be announced on our Instagram page. Follow us to keep up to date!

  • This depends entirely on stock levels, but we aim to ship orders within 5 working days for highly customised orders, and much less for ‘off the shelf’ standards. We will be in touch as soon as your order is placed, if there might be any delay in shipping.

We only post by Tracked Mail (24 or 48 - insured for loss or theft up to £150 ), which means as soon as they’re posted they’ll be with you very soon.

  • If you receive your reeds and are immediately not happy, please contact us to arrange next steps, but we would recommend playing on them as they do benefit from a period of ‘playing in’

Please bear in mind that Oboe cane is a natural product which can be affected easily, even by the weather!

  • Due to slight variances from machine to machine, the readings on our hardness tester may differ to yours. As a (very) general rule, we categorise our cane as 10-11 Hard, 12-13 Medium, 14-15 Soft.

There is an interesting section in Graham Salter’s Understanding the Oboe Reed about the discrepancies between machines.

  • Every finished reed has been quality tested in house.

We then leave them for a period of ‘quarantine’ (- a habit we picked up during the pandemic) and to settle, before shipping.

  • For the early stages of our reed-making, we almost exclusively use Reeds ‘n Stuff machines which we find, are the gold standard of accuracy and innovation. Diameter Gauge, Pregouging, Shaping (LM901, BOUR, RORT, DIANA, RD-2, NICK, RC14) and Testing are all serviced by the R’nS machines.

We gouge our cane on the effortlessly precise, and efficient, Innoledy machines.

Our standard shape is the LM901 on the Reeds ‘n Stuff shaper but we have an ever-growing catalogue of shapes you may prefer, just contact us for current options.

  • Truly successful reed-making begins with controlling as many variables as possible, to produce consistent results.

Every piece of cane is measured at the absolute centre point for both hardness and gouge (- which is why you may see a small indent on all hardness tested cane)

Our machines and testers are extremely precise and well maintained to ensure accuracy and reliability.
